The Catholic Parish of the Most Holy Redeemer and St Joseph, Porthmadog and Pwllheli, has donated 20 per cent of the profits from its annual sponsored walk to St David’s Hospice.

The charity recently amalgamated with Hospice at Home and provides palliative care to terminally ill patients within the community.

Gillian Williams, one of the parish fundraising co-ordinators explained why the charity was chosen to benefit from the walk.

“As a number of parishioners have benefitted from the care of the Hospice at Home team recently, we decided to share the profits from this year’s sponsored Walk with St David’s Hospice in recognition of the excellent work they do,” she said.

“Although we as a parish are in desperate need of funds for projects such as the renovation of the Presbytery in Pwllheli, we feel that as a church we want to reach out and support the wider community by sharing our fundraising profits with another local charity.”

The 15-mile walk from St Beuno’s church in Pistyll to St Joseph’s church in Pwllheli took place in the summer and last now the parish priest, Fr Agbor Fredrick Isek, MSP, has presented a cheque for £600 to Annmarie Jones representing St David’s Hospice.

The presentation took place at the end of the 9.30am Mass in Pwllheli, celebrated by the Rt Rev Peter Brignall, Bishop of Wrexham, who was on visitation in the parish.
