WHAT a difference a day makes for two newly engaged tourists in Meirionnydd.
On Tuesday afternoon, Alex Armstrong was carrying his girlfriend Rose Garvey through flood waters after Talyllyn lake burst its banks following a summer downpour.
Just 24 hours later, drenched in sunshine this time, engineer Alex proposed to his love on top of the majestic Cader Idris and was delighted when newly qualified social worker Rose said ‘yes’.
Ten years ago, 26-year-old Alex visited The Old Rectory on the lake whilst camping in the area with his family and promised himself that he would one day return.
“Little did I realise then that I would come back with a wonderful girl who has just agreed to be my wife!” he said.
Speaking of her spectacular engagement, a jubilant Rose added: “My head is still in the clouds and I had no idea that Alex was going to pop the question.
“As he placed the ring on my finger I was just so amazed.
“The incredible mountain-top setting was even more romantic and we could see for miles.”
