Madam,
I would like to reply to some of the reports and letters in your excellent newspaper.
Firstly, the long-running saga of St Winifride’s Church. The latest developments show how out of touch the Vatican are with local feeling. I myself wrote to the Vatican but received no reply.
If the building is not to be used as a place of worship then at all costs it must remain standing and the interior preserved as much as possible. The building must be preserved as it enhances Aberystwyth town so much.
Secondly, the park-and-ride: reading your reports it is obvious the proposed cancellation of this service has not been debated properly.
This lost service must be kept at all costs as it does bring a lot of footfall to the town as well as helping the mobility of elderly people.
Thirdly, the proposed closure of Great Darkgate Street Post Office. What is going on in the minds of these people who try to force the appalling decisions through? Another lovely building with lots of space, attentive staff.
Now they want to shoehorn people into W H Smith, completely unsuitable. The people will be up the street waiting to be served in cramped conditions.
I ask the good people of Aberystwyth to rally round and defend our public services and beautiful buildings until we emerge victorious.
Yours etc,
E Payne, Aberystwyth Holiday Village, Penparcau, Aberystwyth.
