Madam,

The recent criticism and anger directed at the GP partners and staff at the Dyfi Valley Health Centre in Machynlleth following the group’s request to close the Glantwymyn Health Centre is wholly unjustified.

Our GPs are having to work under intolerable budgetary restraints. Funding for GP practices has been continually reduced to a completely unsustainable level. Welsh Assembly health minister Vaughan Gethin and Powys Health Board know only too well the situation and continue to take no action.

GPs are working their guts out to stay afloat under intolerable pressures.

I would urge everybody in the community to contact their AMs and councillors. Also complain to Vaughan Gethin and the Powys Health Board. Please give our long-suffering GPs a break. Support and appreciate them. If we don’t, we run the risk of having no general practice service at all.

Yours etc, David Freeman, Forge.
