Madam,

One day I rested at the top of a hill. The road showed 30mph from a 60mph wide road. The hill narrowed to a sharp bend to the right, then immediately there was a left bend onto a narrow bridge, where only one car at a time could pass either way.

I noticed very few cars dropped speed to navigate the hill or bends. What I was seeing was very dangerous driving, but nobody seemed to care.

A repeat of this kind of driving all over the country must mean accidents. It shows we have really stupid, ignorant motorists who obviously cannot read road signs. No wonder there are so many accidents.

It is time for the government to rethink car size and car power. Smaller should now be the norm, with restrictions to 55mph on all roads, including motorways. And there must be stronger deterrents. Only police cars, ambulances and fire engines should be authorised to have no restrictions.

The cars being produced are too powerful for British roads and should be reduced to no more than 600cc. This will never happen because money comes before saving lives.

Yours etc, F Oliver, Fairbourne.
