Madam,

Thank you for publicising in last week’s Cambrian News the efforts of three councillors to get the park-and-ride service reinstated in Aberystwyth.

It has a value to those who prefer to park out of town and not face the traffic of the roads in the town centre, but who cannot walk all that way in. It is also useful for those of us who come into town from outlying villages and farms.

Some of us are now less mobile and a bus to take us up to the top of Great Darkgate Street from a long-distance bus stop is a great help. As for the hospital, there are places it can stop, apart from the one “official” bus stop which may be temporarily out-of-action. What we cannot do, those of us who are ourselves frail, or who care for someone a bit wobbly, is cross that big main road safely to get to the hospital.

We need a bus to any one of the several hospital entrances; it need not be the current one.

I am sure we would not mind paying 50p or £1 for a helpful journey to wherever we need to be, even those of us with bus passes.

The park-and-ride bus is used by all sorts of people, not only car owners.

Yours etc

Elizabeth Darlington, Llanon.
