THE UNESCO-designated Dyfi Biosphere has announced a series of weird and wonderful events that will introduce you to the legends of the area.

Come aboard the Storybus to hear all of the area’s stories in one music, mayhem and action-packed day, and then head to Aberystwyth promenade where a giant puppet will tell you why the Biosphere is such a special place.

Or perhaps you’d rather head to Borth to learn about the ways that science and art mingle together amongst the ancient tree trunks of the petrified forest and the misty, mulchy myths of the Cors Fochno (Borth Bog) Special Area of Conservation.

Hannah Engelkamp, of Dyfi Biosphere, said: “As soon as you scratch the surface, our little edge of Wales is stuffed full of weird and wonderful legends, strange characters, enchanted chickens, mad poets and drunken mermaids.

“We’ve put together a really exciting series of bilingual events to encourage people to come here and learn all about it. Join us on the Storybus to hear all the tales of the area, come exploring with a 12ft puppet, learn about the art and science of the submerged forest and Cantre’r Gwaelod at Borth, and meet the Old Toad out on Borth Bog.

“Most people don’t know that we live in a UNESCO-designated area — the Dyfi Biosphere that encompasses the Dyfi estuary, as well as the land as far as Aberystwyth to the south and Dinas Mawddwy to the north.

“It is an area that is considered of international value for its people and culture as well as its ecology and landscape.”

Events run between Saturday, 18 February, and Sunday, 26 February.
