GLYN Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, has welcomed figures which show that unemployment is continuing to fall within Montgomeryshire.

The Office of National Statistics have released figures which show that, in April 2016, the number of claimants for Job Seekers’ Allowance in Montgomeryshire was 418, representing just 1.4 per cent of the economically active population.

The number of claimants is 60 lower than in March, and 73 lower than in April 2015.

There were also 115 claimants aged 18-24 within the constituency, 15 lower than April 2015.

Mr Davies said: “The astonishingly low unemployment figures in Montgomeryshire are continuing, as are the striking high levels of employment. Montgomeryshire remains the constituency with the lowest rate of unemployment in Wales, continuing the remarkable trend we have seen within the constituency since 2010.

“Even more encouraging is the news that pay is continuing to increase, with weekly wage earnings rising an average of 2.1 per cent above inflation from January to March.”
