THE Museum of Modern Art, Machynlleth, is hosting a number of exhibitions at the moment, including one for north Wales artist, Peter McNally.

His exhibition, The Stream and the Steam - Paintings 1974-2015, continues there until 16 January.

Peter was born in Bangor and grew up in Blaenau Ffestiniog. He studied fine art at Chester School of Art followed by Camberwell School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools in London, where he is still based and makes regular visits back to Wales.

Commenting on his paintings, Peter said: “My work is about the rugged landscape of Blaenau Ffestiniog and my early life growing up within it: the Moelwyn Mountains, the challenging weather and the changing post-industrial landscape and environment.

“My work also includes strong references to places I’ve visited in the world and my continued interest and influences within the 20th and 21st century art movements.”

Also on display at MOMA is an exhibition of work by Bob Guy.

His exhibition, Embrace the Hills, also finishes on 16 January.

His exhibition is part of a project for which he is producing wood engravings to celebrate 40 years in Montgomeryshire, and the various places he has lived around the Tanat and Cain valleys.

Specialising in wood engraving, a technique pioneered in the late 18th century by Thomas Bewick and revived in the 20th, Bob has recently been elected a member of the Society of Wood Engravers.

He also produces his own handmade books and portfolios of prints, and is a member of the online collective www.artistsbooksonline.com. He has curated two exhibitions of artist’s books.
