I write with regards to the piece in the Cambrian News dated21 January, with regard to the students calling for a suspension on their rents.
While I have nothing against the student population, I find this rather sad and rather disrespectful to any other persons in rented accommodation.
We are all in rather straightened circumstances, yet we are still expected to find our rent as well as any other household bills.
It is also somewhat galling that too many properties are out of bounds for the residents of Aberystwyth due to them being reserved for the student population.
Why should this be, as with campus and new village accommodation built solely for the students, most of the houses in the town itself designed for students are lying empty and falling into disrepair?
I speak as a resident of Aberystwyth who recently found themselves in just this position and was told by many letting agencies that accommodation was listed as student?
I also know of other people who have encountered this problem, even the people in local authorities have commented on the unfairness of this. What is the answer? Unfortunately I do not know but somebody must.
