Re: Cwrtnewydd quarry.

The problems with batching concrete so close to our village - this is what the council, police, National Resources Wales and politicians are all ignoring.

We are bracing ourselves for another summer of cement dust polluting our village. We have mums who have to keep their children in all day because of it. We have become prisoners in our own homes during the summer months.

We fear things could get much, much worse. We never wanted the quarry to close. Fifty-eight locals asked them not to start batching concrete and now our worst fears have been realised.

The council’s response was, and I quote, “just keep your windows and doors shut and try not to go out if you hear a lorry coming”.

They did some air pollution tests, and for what it’s worth they replied, “our air pollution is no worse than Aber high street on a busy day”. When I asked about what was in the dust, water and air, the NRW and council replied they don’t have the resources to test that in-depth.

People who live in Cwrtnewydd have a legal right to know if this dust is lung-damaging, cancercausing pollution. We want a proper investigation.
