A FORMER Cardigan rugby forward has carried a 50kg bag of coal 18 miles from Fishguard to Cardigan to raise funds for a two-year-old boy suffering from spina bifida.

Accompanied by local charity workers Cardigan Cavegirls, Cardigan Coal Crew and others, including his 50-year-old wife, Cindy, Coleg Ceredigion building instructor Derek Burton, of St Dogmaels, marched along the A487 trunk road from Fishguard Square to the Guildhall in Cardigan on Saturday. The walkers were raising funds to buy a £2,000 active user wheelchair for Beulah toddler Miller Harris.

“Although Miller is able to walk he gets very tired and is in need of one of these wheelchairs,” said Miller’s mum Abby.

“I would like to say a big thank you to Derek and all his helpers.”
