Your correspondent from Llanon, Sue Slocombe, may be interested to learn of an excellent practice from rural Spain whereby speed-activated traffic lights are installed in villages so that anyone exceeding the speed limit is faced with traffic lights on red for about a minute. It does seem to work, although in a long village there would need to be a set at either end.
