Madam,
Where is the evidence that “the vast majority are delighted” by the proposed renovation of Welsh Martyrs (letters page, last week’s Cambrian News)? A poll was taken in 2006, following the ‘Day of Discernment’ which showed that 80 per cent of parishioners favoured the central town site. In 2010 a petition against the Penparcau move was signed by hundreds of parishioners and sent to the bishop. In 2013, parishioners were again asked for their views and 229 out of 330 Mass attenders (70 per cent) wished the church to remain in town. However why don’t we settle the matter by putting it to a vote? It takes a special kind of talent to start off with three churches, £250,000 and two parcels of development land and end up with one jerry-built church and a £360,000 debt.
Yours etc
