Madam,

On 5 July you published the first letter I have ever written to a newspaper. It was about the current number of Gwynedd councillors.

In that same edition there was a report about the row at Tywyn Town Council over the flying of flags on the promenade. If this is the level of discussion that takes place in Tywyn council, I despair!

Frankly, if my two younger grandchildren (aged eight and six) were to behave like that I would tell them to grow up!

There are far more important subjects that the council should be discussing rather than behaving like this, but perhaps I am expecting too much.

For example, the council recently took over the car park near the Talyllyn Railway and installed a payment machine. The notice says that no vehicles over 1.5 tonnes should be parked there. Does the council know that that excludes most of the large family vehicles such as a Range Rover?

If they did, why did they make such a decision? If they didn’t, surely they should have checked before imposing a stupid arbitrary limit?

Also, where do they expect coaches – which bring a large number of visitors to Tywyn and the Talyllyn Railway every year – to park to drop and pick up their passengers?

Yours etc,

Nigel Adams, Tywyn.
