Madam,
When Thomas Savin and his men built the Cambrian Coast Line in the 1860s they would not have believed that over 150 years later no excursion trains would run along the Cambrian lines.
Despite the improved service, during the week there are certain paths which would allow for such traffic. West Coast Railways have fitted the necessary equipment for hauling excursion trains on two of their locomotives to work both to Aberystwyth and Pwllheli and yet they have never been used. The Cambrian system has to be re-opened for all types of traffic not just service trains. Many towns would have economic benefits if excursion trains could bring 300 people to cafes and shops.
During July, steam-hauled special trains are scheduled to run on both the Conwy Valley and Heart of Wales Lines. But not on the Cambrian Lines.
Yours etc,
Chris Magner, Dunval Road, Bridgnorth.
