Madam,

Re your article headlined ‘Councillors told off for parking in free spaces’ (Cambrian News, 12 July), if any members of the public parked wrongly in a designated space in Aberystwyth, we would be fined. Why are councillors exempt?

Parking in the town centre is a huge problem, especially for visitors with mobility needs. They have to park away from the town centre and walk.

As for “popping in” as per your report, I would love to be able to do that at my bank on Great Darkgate Street to pay vital bills etc, but would probably get a parking fine. That is if I could even park in town. There is no parking before 1pm, and then only a half-hour stay.

And we call Aberystwyth a tourist destination!

The law should apply to all. Councillors should not be exempt.

Yours etc,

Annie Cudmore, Aberarth.
