Madam,

Re the university’s financial predicament (Job losses likely as Aberystwyth University faces £11.4m cuts), one obvious solution would surely be to sell off some their properties, many of which are being left to go to rack or ruin.

There are the staff houses in Laura Place, the two properties next to the Cambria on the promenade in Aberystwyth and a clutch of houses near to IBERS at Penrhyncoch. Most landlords would surely be taken to task for allowing such properties to deteriorate in this way?

I’m Aberystwyth born and bred and I recognise the value of the university to the town, but I’m also sad that it is contributing to the ‘down at heel’ look too.
