With more than 12,000 skaters, thousands of spectators and visitors attending the Winterland was dubbed a great success.

The event which took place in the grounds of Aberystwyth Castle and St Michael’s Church started on 8 December through to 2 January.

The attraction was the first of its kind in Aberystwyth with the aim to attract new visitors to the town over the festive period.

Advancing Aberystwyth worked with specialist events company 11th hour Events and The German Trade Family & Co Ltd.

Development manager Matthew Newbold and Lisa Dowse, marketing and events coordinator from Advancing Aberystwyth said that a great amount of planning went into this event and it was so rewarding to see so many familiar and unfamiliar faces attending the event.

“They said: “There was a great buzz around the Winterland and gave us a real warm feeling that the event had brought so much joy to families at an affordable price which meant many visited more than once.

“Special thanks to Aberystwyth University in working in partnership with Advancing Aberystwyth and being the main sponsor for the event, also thanks to Brandon Hire, Cambrian Trees and quick fencing for supplying various equipment.

“2019 is set to be another exciting year as we can confirm that the Winterland will be returning and will be bigger and better than 2018.

“We will be holding the ever-popular Outdoor Cinemas and a drive-in cinema along with many other new exciting projects so watch this space!”
