A FASCINATING tale of long-lost family is developing in Tywyn.
The daughter of a former Tonfanau Camp solider has asked the local community to help her track down her half-brother who has roots in the area.
Following an article in the Cambrian News last month, the daughter of James ‘Jimmy’ Wareham (pictured) has contacted the newspaper seeking information relating to her long-lost sibling.
The original article saw a nostalgic Bryn Evans, another former solider based in Tywyn, seek out his old girlfriend, Jean Evans (seen above, 57 years ago), and one of his best friends, Jimmy Wareham, from his time in Meirionnydd in 1949-51.
Bryn was successful with his quest and received several emails from locals offering information about the duo.
According to correspondence, Jean is now living in the Channel Islands – where Bryn hopes to contact her soon – but, sadly, Jimmy has passed away.
However, the story does not finish there.
Gail Everett, a 61-year-old who lives in Devon, contacted both the Cambrian News and Bryn with a fascinating development.
She said: “Charles James (Jimmy) Wareham was my father, and a lieutenant in the Royal Artillery.
“He was posted to Tonfanau on 3 February 1949 and remained there until 1951. I believe this may have been around March that year, as he was sent home that month on compassionate leave when his father died; or maybe a little later in 1951, as I also know that he spent two years in Hong Kong until demob, which was sometime prior to August 1953 so he may have returned to Tonfanau after his leave and before his next posting.
“I am aware that I have an elder half-brother in Wales, possibly born to a local girl in or around the Tywyn area at some point during or shortly after my father’s time at Tonfanau, and would be very interested in hearing if anyone has any further information about who he might be, with a view to the possibility of making contact with him.”
Anyone with any information relating to Gail’s elder half-brother is encouraged to contact [email protected].
