A pensioner who fell on an “uneven, narrow” path in Pwllheli and needed six stitches in her head, has said the state of the path is “diabolical”.
Mary Rees, 68, who lives on Lleyn Street, was left with injuries to her head and arms when she tripped on what she said was an uneven payment on Gaol Street at around 11am on Saturday, 1 February.
Speaking to the Cambrian News, Mary said: “I tripped and put my left hand out. I hit my arm and head on the pavement. Someone came over and picked me up. I thought I was OK, but then I put my hand to my head and noticed I was bleeding.
“The man who helped me up said I didn’t look right. I still felt OK but then I found I couldn’t walk. He brought me home and then I told my daughter what happened.
“I went to Bryn Beryl Hospital and had six stitches and strips on my head. They said if anything changes to let them know. By 3pm I was still bleeding so they told me to go to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor where I was until around 11pm.”
A spokesperson for Gwynedd Council said: “Officers from the council’s transportation and street care service have been in discussion with representatives from Pwllheli Town Council regarding traffic flow matters along Stryd Moch, Gaol Street, in the town for some time.”
A feasibility study into a number of options to alter traffic flow in was conducted some years ago, the council said.
“Public feedback suggested that introducing a one-way system on Gaol Street would not alleviate the main concerns regarding footways in the town centre and could lead to traffic issues in nearby streets,” the spokesperson added.
“Despite this, officers would be happy to discuss the matter further with the town council.”
