An Aberystwyth woodland group is hoping to win support from the public as it looks to scoop funding from a Tesco grant scheme.

The Tesco Bags of Help programme offers grants of £1,000, £2,000 or £4,000 with the money raised by the sale of carrier bags in the store.

Three community projects in each Tesco region are shortlisted to receive the grant with shoppers being asked to vote for who they think should receive the biggest grant.

Actif Woods Aberystwyth is one of the groups shortlisted, with the group working with other organisations to help adults in Ceredigion get involved in woodland activities to help boost their health and wellbeing.

The Aberystwyth group is part of Actif Woods Wales, which is run Coed Lleol, the Small Woods Association.

Amie Andrews, the Coed Lleol manager, said: “Woodlands offer tangible benefits to all, particularly people with work limiting health conditions.

“Actif Woods Aberystwyth supports woodland health and wellbeing activities for adults that nurture community, confidence, skill development, exercise and environmental awareness.

“Crucially these woodland opportunities change peoples lives.”

Actif Woods Aberystwyth works with adults aged over 25 and who are long-term unemployed or economically active and a carer, have health conditions or aged over 54 and works alongside the Woodland Walkers group, Mind Aberystwyth Woodland Group and Tai Ceredigion.

Shoppers at Aberystwyth’s Tesco stores can vote for their favoured scheme with voting beginning on Saturday, 1 September and running until Wednesday, 31 October.
