A £1M project to replace over 1,700 miles of water pipes in Dolgellau is now underway.

Welsh Water has started work on a £1m investment scheme which will “ensure customers in the Dolgellau and surrounding areas continue to receive a top quality drinking water supply for decades to come”.

Work to replace and upgrade 1,730 miles of water pipes in the area has started and should be finished by the end of September.

Welsh Water capital delivery manager for north Wales, Aled Morgan, said: “Our £1m investment in Dolgellau is essential to ensure we continue to provide customers in the area with a first-class drinking water supply.”

The first part of the work will be carried out in fields near Tywyn Road.

Work will then be carried out on Tywyn Road towards Dolgellau town.

To ensure the safety of the general public, road users and the workforce, Tywyn Road will be closed to through traffic during the work and local diversions will be in place.

Mr Morgan added: “We do of course appreciate that work such as this can cause some disruption but we will ensure that this is kept to an absolute minimum. Residents can find more information about where we will be working in Dolgellau on our website www.dwrcymru.com

“We would like to thank local people for bearing with us while the work is taking place.”

The work coincides with a £23,000 project by Wales and West Utilities who are replacing 160m of gas pipes in the Queen’s Square area of Dolgellau.
