Work has started to improve access into and within the Pen Dinas hillfort in Penparcau, Aberystwyth.

The work, which is expected to be finished by October, is being funded through a £50,000 grant from the Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme.

The project will focus on work around the scheduled ancient monument and providing improved links to both Ystwyth and Rheidol Trails and the All Wales Coast Path.

The work includes widening and resurfacing paths, cutting back vegetation and the introduction of panels on site and web guided tours.

Cllr Rhodri Evans, the Cabinet member responsible for economy and regeneration, said: “This is fantastic news for the residents of Penparcau and tourists alike.

"This project will significantly improve accessibility to the Pen Dinas hillfort and will tackle barriers to the countryside.

"Giving the public and residents opportunities to be involved in the project gives them a chance to be a part of something that will make a big difference.”

Ceredigion County Council says it is very grateful to everyone who has volunteered their time to help out so far including individuals, families and groups.

Over the spring there will be more opportunities to be involved including a course for people who may be interested in helping out with future maintenance on the site.
