A YOUNG designer from Lampeter has urged young people in Wales to show off their creative talents.
The visionary flair of Betsan Jones was recognised at WJEC’s Innovation Awards in 2015, when she took a top prize for a Valentino-inspired dress to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.
“I wanted to create a garment to honour those who fought bravely for their country and those, who sadly, lost their lives,” the 18-year-old told the Cambrian News.
“Valentino draws inspiration from the poppy flower; creating flowing lines, layers and using the colour red.
“As the poppy is the symbol of remembrance, I thought my design could be a fitting tribute.
“The dress itself has been mainly made of a plain, black, taffeta style material, with a red leather panel at the front and a detachable train.
“All of the images and motifs printed on the dress were designed by myself; depicting the poem Flanders Fields and a piece from the well-known Welsh bard Hedd Wyn.
“Winning the Innovation Award for creativity was beyond my wildest dreams and an honour to accept it on behalf of Ysgol Bro Pedr."
