A YOUNG Tregaron football coach who overcame disability to win a host of awards has landed his biggest accolade to date: a national award at Cardiff City’s ground presented by former Wales international Danny Gabbidon.

Steve Davies, who was born without a left hand and underwent a toe to hand operation back in December 1996, received the FAW Regional Community Coach award and was nominated for the FAW Community Coach of the Year earlier this year.

“To receive a call one lunchtime during a football session in Lampeter advising me that I had won the Community Coach of the Year for the FAW Community awards definitely brightened up my day,” said Steve, 28. “I had no idea I’d even been nominated, so to be told I’d won was a huge surprise.

“I was invited down to the Community Awards dinner, hosted by McDonalds, along with all the other winners at the Cardiff City Stadium, the day of the Wales vs Andorra Euro 2016 qualifier which I got to watch after.

“The ceremony was great and to have ex-internationals Craig Bellamy and Danny Gabbidon there to present the awards was even more special."
