Madam,
I am writing about the lack of GP provision in Aberystwyth at weekends.
I am currently registered with the Padarn Surgery on Penglais Hill in Aberystwyth and GP provision at the weekend there is zero.
I used to be registered at the Church Surgery in Aberystwyth, where some Saturday surgeries used to be held. But there, too, there are now no weekend surgeries.
We have been told repeatedly about extra money being given to GPs to provide out-of-hours surgeries, but there appear to be none available, despite being given pay rises over the years to do this.
I can take my cat or dog to the vets on a Saturday, but I am unable to see a doctor myself at the weekend, unless I wish to join the queue at the over-burdened A&E, where a four-hour wait appears to the baseline to be seen.
It seems absurd that patients in Aberystwyth must confine their illnesses to working days Monday - Friday, or else face at best a long wait at A&E.
Yours etc,
Andrew Richmond, Llanbadarn Fawr, Aberystwyth.
