Exhilarating speeds, new heights and exciting adventures are what Zip World in Blaenau Ffestiniog is most renowned for, but it could soon receive acclaim for a new venture into green energy.

As well as Blaenau, Zip World has locations at Betws-y-Coed and Penrhyn Quarry.

It is this site that has been chosen to be the first to use lithium iron phosphate batteries which will reduce the company’s carbon footprint, and Blaenau will also use the technology.

According to Transporter Energy, which is carrying out the work, it will take the site completely off-grid, and much of Penrhyn’s security system is already running completely free of mains electricity.

Over the coming months this off-grid project will continue, with each generator being replaced by lithium iron phosphate batteries for both a cleaner and quieter energy source.

Each 6kV generator currently used by Zip World produces copious amounts of CO2 emissions every hour it is running, meaning Zip World will reduce its carbon footprint significantly with every generator that is replaced by a battery bank.

By the end of the project, Transporter Energy will be powering the full mountain adventures, including the security systems and zip lines.

Whilst a green energy source is one of the most desirable reasons why Zip World has chosen this revolutionary energy source, Transporter Energy’s lithium iron phosphate batteries also allow for other green power sources such as solar and wind power to be incorporated.

Commenting on the partnership with Zip World Justin Richardson, technical director at Transporter Energy said: “It has been an exciting year for us here at Transporter Energy with so many new projects taking off, but undoubtedly this is one of the most exciting to date.

“We’re thrilled to be taking these adrenaline-fuelled activities into a much greener future.

“Working alongside such a world renowned company with fun at the centre of what it does, it’s amazing to see them taking a focus on renewable energy, and with the ever-growing demands of the public for green energy, it’s of paramount importance in this world we live.”
