SET in 40 acres of mature woodland near Criccieth, Bron Eifion Fishing Lakes and Lodges has earned a reputation as one of North Wales leading coarse fisheries, writes Carl Worrall, Angling Cymru competition director.

The six-acre lake is home to a wide variety of species including common and mirror carp, F1 carp, crucian carp, tench, bream, roach, chub, barbel, gudgeon and orfe, making it a popular destination for both pleasure and match anglers.

The fishery has a proud angling heritage and has hosted a number of prestigious events, including Wales versus Scotland international matches and Celtic Cup competitions.

In 2008, Bron Eifion became the first fishery in Wales to be awarded "Centre of Excellence" status by the Welsh Federation of Coarse Anglers, underlining its importance within the sport.

As well as attracting experienced anglers, the venue is keen to encourage newcomers into fishing. Young people and complete beginners can receive guidance and support from local angling coach Lee Roberts, who is available to help those wishing to learn the basics of the sport and develop their skills.
