BECA Roberts, of Ysgol Bro Pedr, Lampeter, and Lili Church, of Ysgol Aberaeron, joined the team of 68 Welsh Schools athletes who made the long trip north to Scotland for the showpiece event of the Schools Track and Field calendar.
The majority of the Welsh team had shone at the Welsh Schools Championships, held in Cardiff earlier this month, where the middle champions were automatically selected for the trip up north.
The majority of athletes selected were from years 10 and 11, but a small number of outstanding juniors at under 15s level were also given the opportunity to gain experience of this level of competition.
High jumper Lili Church was one such competitor, having performed consistently over the summer season, and having come back from a long term injury, she cleared another best jump of 1.61 metres.
Fellow Carmarthen Harrier Beca Roberts, after only trying triple jump for the first time a few months back, has already improved significantly and she too was selected to represent Welsh Schools.
She improved her previous best by 1cm to 10.75m, her best jump on the day.
Welsh Schools picked up three silver and four bronze medals and there were several new personal bests recorded.
They included silver medals: Bethany Moule (Dwr y Felin) Javelin (45.90m); 4 x 300m Relay Isabel Davies, Caitlyn Mapps, Sacha Didcote, Macey Morris (2:42:31); Samia Jones (Syr Hugh Owen) 1500m (4:37:13). Bronze medals: Grace Morgan (Radyr) 80m Hurdles (11.34); Harry Davies (St Michael’s) Discus (45.22m); Tomos Rees (Dyffryn Aman) 1,500m Steeplechase (4:35:44), Caitlyn Mapps (Islwyn High) Long Jump (5.66m).
