CARDIGAN’s PDC star Jamie Lewis produced some superb darts to reach the semi-finals in the second of three Coral UK Open Qualifiers at Wigan’s Robin Park.

Having reached the last four, he came up against 43-year-old Alan Norris of Bo’ness in the Central Lowlands of Scotland, who was recently named the PDC Best Newcomer of the Year.

In a thrilling match, Norris finally prevailed in a last-leg decider, before then losing in the final against Dutch star and the World number one, Michael van Gerwen.

The 24-year-old Lewis had enjoyed victories against Chris Dobey, Tony Newell, Steve Beaton, Matt Clark and Kyle Anderson on route to the semi-finals.

The achievement means that he is virtually certain of competing in next month’s PDC Coral UK Open event.

A total of six qualifiers are held, each offering prize money of £60,000 - and reaching the semis earned Lewis £2,500 in prizemoney.

Lewis had won his way through to the last 32 of the first qualifier in Wigan, before losing out to former BDO World Champion Steve Beaton, having beaten Scott Dale and Gary Stone.

In the third qualifier, Lewis reached the third round, before losing to Ricky Evans, having knocked out Dave Ladley in the earlier round.

The next three qualifier events will be held in Wigan from Friday, 19 February to Sunday, 21 February.
