CEREDIGION’s Coral Kennerley says she is keen to impress for Team Wales’ shooting team at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

The Cardiff University student, who hails from Llanddeiniol, has a sense of unfinished business, after illness affected her performance at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games four years ago.

Coral, who has been selected for Great Britain at the World University Shooting Championships in Malaysia in March, is the current Welsh and British champion for the 10 metre ladies’ air pistol, and she also holds the British Army Open title.

She holds all the Welsh records for her disciplines and British records for the 10 metre air pistol final and junior ladies 0.22 10 metre sport pistol qualification score.

“I’m really excited to be competing for Wales in my second Commonwealth Games,” said the 23 year-old, a former pupil of Ysgol Penweddig, Aberystwyth.

“Having been hit by glandular fever two months before the Glasgow Commonwealth Games back in 2014, I’m determined to improve on my performance in the Gold Coast Games in April.

“It’s an honour to be able to represent Wales at such a big competition. It’s going to be great to see our small nation come together on the other side of the world.”

Born in Nairobi, Coral grew up in Ceredigion and is a fundamental part of the Wales and Great British shooting line up.

She became involved in shooting through her involvement with the Gogerddan Pony Club Tetrathlon, a four-discipline sport, which involves shooting, swimming, running and horse riding.

Following strong encouragement from her coach John Kelman, she decided to become fully involved with the sport

Her skills have seen her crowned British Champion, and win silver for Team GB at the Australian Youth Festival in 2013.

A member of the Welsh High Performance squad, she went on to represent Wales at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, competing in the 10 metre air pistol and placing 6th in the final, alongside the best shooters in the world.
