Tywyn & District (157) lost to Aberystwyth (167 for 6) by 10 runs

ABERYSTWYTH returned to winning ways in the West Wales Cricket Club Conference with a thrilling 10-run victory at Tywyn, when dismissing the home batsmen for 157 all out in the 37th over.

James Breese scored a half-century and chipped in with 4 wickets for 20 off 9 overs to secure a welcome win for Aber.

Having won the toss, Aber elected to bat first and openers Ceri John and James Breese put on 31 for the first wicket, before John (17) was caught by Matthew Maslin from the bowling of Richard Rees.

Mel Jones came in and he made 19, before offering Dylan Williams a catch from the bowling of Ed Hughes, whilst at the other end Breese (53) reached his half century, before he was finally caught behind by Dave Jenkins off the bowling of Hughes (3 wickets for 33, from 9 overs).

Tom Constantine (18), Ifan Thomas (18) and Dafydd Jones (12 not out) all made double figures as the visiting batsmen set a total of 167 for 6 from their 40 overs.

Tywyn’s reply looked well on course as openers Callum Talyor and Richard Rees put on 89 runs for the first wicket, before Rees was caught for 15 runs by Dafydd Jones, off the bowling of Titus Mathew.

Taylor soon followed when he also offered Jones a catch from the bowling of James Breese for 67, and 92 for 2 became 113 for 3 when Rob Rudge stumped Jack Mynard for 7, from Mathew (2 for 32).

Wickets continued to tumble as Gareth Lewis (2 for 29, from 8 overs) and James Breese (4 for 20, from 9 overs) increased the pressure on Tywyn’s lower order.

Dave Jenkins (12) and Dylan Williams (9) scored precious runs, but veteran Anthony Evans (2 for 22, 5.1 overs) struck to dismiss Ed Hughes lbw for 3 and had Matthew Maslin (10) caught behind by Rudge, to leave Tywyn 10 runs adrift.

This weekend will see Talybont take on Commoners on Saturday, and then on Sunday Aberystwyth Firsts take on their Seconds at the Geufron, whilst Tywyn play hosts to high-flying Aberaeron.
