ALL-ROUNDER John Curran made a storming start to the season as he carried his bat for a grand 204 not out for Llechryd Seconds against Pembroke Seconds last weekend.
Curran, who suffered a leg injury playing football for Newcastle Emlyn a few weeks ago, was given a run out with the second string and he set a new club record.
His stunning knock sent the visiting fielders scurrying to all parts of the ground as Llechryd posted a huge 283 for 0, before dismissing their visitors for 93 in the Pembrokeshire League division four last weekend.
Curran’s fine knock included a total of 22 fours and 5 sixes as he shared in an undefeated opening stand with talented teenager Tomos Davies, who hit nine boundaries in his unbeaten half century of 57 not out.
There was only going to be one winner and Pembroke, who are bottom of the table, were eventually skittled out for just 93, despite Mark Fraser top scoring with 45.
He quickly ran out of batting partners as Llechryd cleaned up, with medium pacer Scott Thomas returning 3 wicketes for just 7 runs.
Peter Gregory also took 2 for 7 in their 190-run victory.
• Crymych, who have enjoyed a decent start to the season, were well beaten by division high fliers Narberth Seconds last weekend.
The Preseli men finished on 177 for 8, thanks to the efforts of prolific scorer Richard Thorne, who made 82, Dafydd Wright, with 44 not out, and Ioan Davies 24.
Matthew Johns took 2 for 16, Andrew Williams 3 for 27, and Nick Evans 2 for 33.
Narberth then made light work of the task in hand as they coasted to victory for the loss of only three wickets, with Dai Johns top scoring on 71 not out and son Mathew Johns almost matching him with 64 not out. Bowler Alan Luke returned 2 for 28 for Crymych.Llangwm (236-8) drew with Llechryd (185-5)
THERE were runs aplenty at Pill Parks as table-topping Llangwm built a huge score of 236 for 8 before tea, but Llechryd also batted well to come away with the draw in the Pembrokeshire League division two last weekend.
The result, however, meant Llangwm gained sufficient points to hold off Narberth at the top of the standings.
Joe Kiff led the Llangwm batting with 5 fours and 5 sixes in his stylish 77 runs, supported by Noah Davies (26), Jonathan Kiff (33) and Luke Brock (33), with Peter Betterley (1 for 31), James Betterley (1 for 47), Graham Keen (3 for 77), Leighton O’Connor (2 for 58) and John Lewis (1 for 27) being the Llechryd wicket-takers.
Matthew Kiff (2 for 35), Noah Davies (1 for 20), Luke Brock (1 for 15) and skipper Ollie Davies (1 for 30) claimed wickets for Llangwm, but good batting by Ollie Roberts (72) and John Lewis (70), plus 20 runs from Michael Carter, took the visiting team to safety.
