Dafen (190 for 5) beat Llandysul (186) by 5 wkts
GARY Williams put on 84 for Llandysul at Dafen Welfare Park, but the Teifisiders were unable to defend 186 all out as the hosts went on to register a five-wicket win in the South Wales Cricket Association division one last weekend.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, openers Williams and Rhydian Harris had started confidently. Harris hit three boundaries, but with the score on 36 he was dismissed lbw for 12 by Mathew Donogue.
Ben Edkins came in and he formed a great partnership with Williams as they set about adding some 104 runs for the second wicket. Edkins struck 9 boundaries as he reached his half century off 70 balls, before finally being caught by Matthew Evans, off the bowling of Phillip George for 52.
Six runs later, George bowled Ieuan Paske for 4, and the same bowler then claimed the prize wicket of opener Williams, when he was caught behind by keeper Daniel Vaughan for 84.
Williams had hit 12 fours and a big six off the 123 balls that he faced, but from 161 for 4, no other batsman managed double figures.
Chris Hudson (3 for 22 from 9 overs) sent Andrew Edwards, Llewelyn Hughes and Carwyn Evans packing, before George, who finished with excellent figures of 6 for 21 from 10 overs, then returned to finish off the lower order batsmen.
Llandysul’s hopes of defending their total of 186 were lifted when Llewelyn Hughes bowed opener Jeremy Dawes for nought, but opener Nicky Davies and Mathew Evans took charge.
They crucially added 104 runs for the second wicket, before Davies was caught behind by Andrew Barrett for 32 runs, from the bowling of Andrew Edwards.
Evans went on to make 69, which included 10 fours, before he was caught by Arfon Jones from bowler Luke Swift, to make it 125 for 3.
Another 30 runs were then added for the fourth wicket, before Simon Davies was caught and bowled for 19, by Steffan Jones.
David Dunfee was caught by Steffan Jones for 12, from the bowling of Rhydian Harries, but Jonathan Randall (27 not out, with 4 fours) and Jamie Mansell (8 not out, 2 fours) went on to secure the home victory at 190 for 5 om the 46th over.
Fourth from bottom Llandysul will now face a crunch game this Saturday when visiting second from bottom Merthyr Tydfil.
• Llandysul Seconds had a fine weekend in the South Wales Association division six, with back to back wins over Morriston Seconds and Ammanford Thirds.
Thomas Harries (43), Gareth Chapple (33), Dafydd Jones (21), Joseph Swift (20), Huw Evans (48 not out) and Craig Gordon (18) helped post 218 for 7 at home to Morrison on the Saturday.
Dafydd Hatley (3 for 9), Aled Jones (2 for 28) and Joe Swift (2 for 22) then helped dismiss the visitors for 104 all out, despite Matthew Dardecker making 42 runs.
On Sunday, Llandysul Seconds won the toss and set a target of 230 for 6 away against Ammanford, who then finished on 215 for 8.
