DOLGELLAU recovered from their maximum points defeat at Carmel the previous week to beat bottom side Buckley at home in the North Wales League division one.

This time Dolgellau gained maximum points to climb out of the relegation spots.

In a very one-sided match the hosts made 268 for 6, with opener Gethin Edwards smashing a century of 113 from 115 deliveries, before the visitors surrendered to 95 all out in 45 painstaking overs.

Dolgellau, put in to bat, slumped to 65 for 3 in 14 overs, with skipper Dan Clubbe and Daz Wilcock making real inroads.

Clubbe dismissed the hosts’ captain Gareth Lanagan, lbw for 11, and Wilcock had Greg Smithies stumped by Sam Evans off Wilcock one run later, to make it 14 for 2.

Gethin Edwards was then joined by Phil Leeds to have a stand of 51 runs for the third wicket in 10 overs, which was ended when Clubbe bowled out Leeds at 65.

Edwards continued to accumulate runs and found an able ally in Jack Williams.

In 22 overs they had an alliance of 101, both batsmen profiting from some mediocre bowling in mid-innings. Edwards advanced to his 50 from 53 balls and went on to a century, striking a six and 15 fours scattering the fielders far and wide.

Edwards had made a well constructed 113 when he was finally dismissed in the 36th over, when bowled by Joel Sampson.

Mark Edmondson came to the crease to join Jack Williams with the total on 166 for 4, seeing a further 54 scored in 7 overs.

Edmondson had made 34 with 3 fours when he was caught by Jon Smith off Wilcock, Edmondson and Williams taking Dolgellau past the 200 mark. Jack put on 24 more with his brother Sam Williams, who was run out by Smith; 244 for 7.

The last four overs yielded another 32 runs, with Rob Humphreys hitting 3 fours in his 16 not out and Jack Williams finishing undefeated with an excellent 55, which included 5 boundaries, having earlier also had an important partnership with Edwards, which turned the match very much in Dolgellau’s favour.

Wilcock, with 2 wickets for 61 and Clubbe, 2 for 68, both from 12 overs, were the best of the bowling returns as Dolgellau totalled 268 for 6 from their 50 overs.

Buckley lost their first wicket at 18 in the seventh over, with Clubbe being the batsman to go, when lbw to Edmondson.

Opener Dan Haynes and Jon Smith at number three stayed together for 22 overs as they scored 64 for the second wicket, before Smith was lbw to Leeds for 27.

Thereafter Buckley collapsed to 95 all out, surviving a further 16 overs as just 13 runs were added. Haynes was the 4th wicket down for his side’s top score of 34, caught behind by Lanagan off Smithies.

It was all over in the 45th over, with Leeds taking 3 wickets for 14 from 12 overs and Smithies 3 for 13 from 10 overs after an earlier impressive spell of 11 overs, 3 maidens, 2 for 19 by Edmondson.

Sam Williams contributed a catch and a run out as Dolgellau won by 173 runs.

Grateful thanks go to scorer Alan Cook for the match statistics. Marchwiel, who are 9 points below Dolgellau in the League, visit the Marian on Saturday in another vital match for the home side.
