Llandysul (265) lost to Gowerton (270-6) by 5 runs

LLANDYSUL got to within just five runs of chasing down a formidable total of 270 for 6, before falling just short against Gowerton in the South Wales Association division one at Tir y Dref.

Opener Mathew Mason had led the way for Gowerton with a superb hard-hitting century that saw him smash 14 fours and 6 sixes in a stunning knock of 133.

With support from Tomos Davies (27), the opening pair had put on 104 for the first wicket, before Davies was caught by Andrew Barrett, from the bowling of Andrew Edwards, having also struck a total of 5 fours.

Edwards also bowled Bevan Daniels for 11, but James Gardiner joined opener Mason in taking the score on from 118 for 2 to 211 for 3.

Mason was caught by Gary Williams from the bowling of Ieuan Paske, but another 40 runs were added before Gardiner was caught and bowled by Rhydian Harris for 44, with 5 fours.

Chris Mason made 14, before he was trapped lbw by Llewelyn Hughes, and Rhodri Phillips was 11 not out as Gowerton finished on 270 for 6 after their 50 overs.

Llandysul’s wicket-takers were Ieuan Paske (1 for 53), Rhydian Harris (1 for 38), Edwards (2 for 34) and Llewelyn Hughes (1 for 54).

In reply, Gary Williams hit a boundary, before being bowled by Will Collison for 4, but opener Rhydian Harris and Ben Edkins revived the innings by taking the home score on to 126 for 2.

Harris was caught by Ben Whitehouse from bowler Marvel Biju for 40, with 4 fours, and Edkins soon followed, when he was caught by Mathew Mason, again from Biju, having made 78 runs, with 7 fours and a six.

Llewelyn Hughes kept the runs coming as he helped to take the score on to 172 for 4, before being trapped lbw by Chris Mason for 25 runs.

Ieuan Paske was caught by Tomos Davies from Biji for 0, and then Andrew Edwards was bowled out by Mason for 17, with 3 fours.

With Carwyn Evans batting well at the other end, Luke Swift also made a useful 17 runs, before being caught by Luke Main from Rhodri Phillips, who also bowled Steffan Jones for 3.

With the score on 220 for 8, Arfon Jones joined Evans and he helped to take Llandysul to the brink of victory with 20 runs off 13 balls, including 2 fours.

Jones was bowled by Phillips to make it 257 for 9, but with five runs needed for victory, Andrew Barrett was run out, leaving the Teifisiders just short on 166 all out.

Carwyn Evans was on 42 not out at the end, with the wickets having fallen to Rhodri Phillips (3 for 21), Marvel Biju (3 for 53), Chris Mason (2 for 4) and Will Collinson (1 for 41).
