Maesteg Celtic (134-6) beat Llandysul (105) by 29 runs
LLANDYSUL fell 29 runs short of victory in the South Wales Cricket Association division one when they were bowled all out for 105 against Maesteg Celtic at the Celtic Welfare Ground.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the hosts lost Nick Poole for 3 when he was run out by Arfon Jones, and the score had advanced to 46 when fellow opener Matthew Davies was bowled by Ieuan Paske for 19, including 2 fours.
Ian Herbert, at three, took centre stage, and after wicket-keeper Andrew Edwards had held a catch from Gareth Hopkins for nought, from the bowling of Paske, Herbert had some support from Morgan Griffiths (14).
The score went from 46 for 3 to 69 for 4 when Griffiths was caught by Paske from the bowling of Edwards.
Phil Poole (12) helped the score on to 102 for 5, when he was bowled by Llewelyn Hughes, and it was Hughes who finally bowled Herbert out for 49, with 6 fours and a six, to make it 134 for 6.
Lindsay Harris had contributed 24 not out, with 3 fours, when the home innings closed after 33 overs.
Paske finished with 2 for 30 off 6 overs, Hughes took 2 for 14 off 3 overs, and Edwards had 1 for 13 from 7.
Llandysul’s openers put on 20 runs for the first wicket, when Meurig Jones was run out for 11 runs, and it became 58 for 2 when Ieuan Paske was caught behind for 11 by Nick Poole, from the bowling of Phil Poole.
Ben Edkins was accumulating runs at the other end, but Andrew Edwards was bowled by Morgan Grifiths for 12, and middle order wickets started to tumble, with Phil Poole finishing with figures of 4 for 18.
Edkins made 47, including 5 boundaries, but when he was bowled by Matthew Davies it became 99 for 9.
Davies (2 for 20 from 3.5 overs) took the final wicket to ensure Llandysul were all out for 105 in 29.5 overs.
• Llandysul Seconds slipped to a three-wicket defeat at home to Llandore Seconds after they had been dismissed for 103 all out in the South Wales Cricket Association’s division six.
After losing the toss and being asked to bat first, the Teifisiders struggled to make three figures, despite resistance from Tudur Davies (24, with 4 fours) and Lewis Jones (27 not out).
Stuart Davies (2 for 26), Rico Pasquantonio (3 for 12), Bobby Blades (2 for 16) and James Lewis Hyndman (2 for 4) ensured they were out for 103 in the 35th over.
Llandore’s Liam Harrington (20), Oliver Moore (11), Stuart Davies (38) and Rico Pasquantonio (16) helped them reach 104 for 7 in 33 overs, despite Aled ‘Tanybryn’ Jones claiming 5 for 31 in 8 overs, and Craig Gordon 2 for 19 in 8 overs.
