LLANDYSUL’s opening batsman Rhidian Harris carried his bat for a fine innings of 82 not out as he led his side to an impressive five-wicket win over Maesteg Celtic in their South Wales Association division one match at Parc Tir Y Dref.
Harries stroked the ball around the ground, accumulating 7 fours and 3 sixes off 125 balls, in a winning reply of 145-5.
The visitors had won the toss and elected to bat, and were soon in trouble when opener Mathew Rogers was caught by Tom Harries off the bowling of Iestyn Evans for 2, after only facing two balls.
Gareth Hopkins managed to steady things, until he was caught by skipper Daryl Griffiths off the bowling of Evans for 18, and he was soon followed by opener Nick Poole, who was caught by Carwyn Evans off a Rhidian Harris delivery for 25, with 4 fours, to make the score 57 for 3.
Phil Poole and Daniel Miller advanced the score to 90, with Poole making 23, with 2 fours, before he was caught by Iestyn Evans off a ball from Farooq Shah.
Shah also ran out Rhodri Thomas for 4 and then bowled Lindsay Harris for 2, but Miller remained unbeaten on 37 not out, with Glen Lawler 18 not out when the innings ended on 144 for 6 after 50 overs.
Cardigan Town FC midfielder Iestyn Evans finished with an economical 2 wickets for 18 from his 10 overs, with 5 maidens, and Arfon Jones 0 for 14 from 8 overs, with 6 maidens. Rhydian Harris claimed 1 for 20 from 10 overs, with 2 maidens, and Shah finished with 2 for 36 from 10 overs.
In reply, openers Tom Harris and Rhidian Harris made a steady start with a 30 run partnership, before Tom Harries was caught by Nick Poole in the slips from the bowling of Chris Hicks for 7, and number three Iestyn Evans soon followed when he was leg before off Hicks having struck 4.
Further woe was to follow as Llandysul slumped to 36-4 with Ieuan Paske clean bowled by Glen Lawler without scoring, and Carwyn Evans suffered the same fate when he was also dimissed lbw to Lawler.
The winning target looked a long way off for the hosts at the mid way stage, but number six batsman Ben Edkins got his head down and, along with Harris compiled a stand of 107 before Edkins was eventually out on 39, with 3 fours, off the bowling of Luke Wilson - with Llandysul now only needing two runs for victory.
These came very soon afterwards when Harris, on 82 not out, clipped the ball through mid-wicket to steer his team to a comfortable win with nine overs to spare.
For the visitors, Glen Lawler returned 3 for 25 from 10 overs, with 3 maidens, Chris Hicks took 1 for 13 from 10 overs, with 3 maidens, and Luke Wilson 1 for 33 from 5.5 overs. Adam Lawler finished with 0 for 21 from 9 overs, with 3 maidens.
