Llandysul (155) lost to Gorseinon (158-7) by 3 wkts
LLANDYSUL slipped to a fourth successive loss in the South Wales Cricket Association division one with a three wicket defeat to league leaders Gorseinon at Tir Dref, despite a spirited performance.
Having lost the toss and been asked to bat first, the Teifisiders were all out for 155, although the visitors had to work hard to finally reach their winning target for the loss of seven wickets.
Llandysul openers Ieuan Paske and Rhydian Harris put on 64 for the first wicket, before Paske was caught behind by Greg Fisher from bowler Joe Baker, having made 32 runs, with 6 fours.
Fisher also caught Thomas Harris for nought from the bowling of Andrew Dyer, and Llewelyn Hughes was dismissed lbw for a single run, off bowler Joe Baker.
Andrew Edwards came in and he and Harris took the score from 68 to 101, when Harris was trapped lbw from the bowling of Gafyn Donald for 39, with 5 fours.
Carwyn Evans gave Fisher his third catch for 5 from bowler Donald, but Luke Swift weighed in with a useful 12 runs, with 2 fours, before he was caught by Josh Simmons from Joe Baker.
Edwards went on to make 41, with 6 fours, before finally being bowled by Connor Barry, before Llandysul finished on 155 all out.
Joe Baker finished with bowling figures of 4 for 38 from 9.3 overs, with Gafyn Donald also taking 2 for 17 and Connor Barry 2 for 16.
Llandysul’s bowlers had immediate success as Ieuan Paske had opener Kieran Howells caught by Carwyn Evans and Daniel Allen was bowled, both for nought.
Jack Donovan and Josh Simmons dug in, however, and they added 51 for the third wicket, before opener Donovan was caught by keeper Andrew Barrett for 13, including 3 boundaries.
Connor Barry then came in and he helped the score on to 84 for 4, when he was caught by Luke Swift from the bowling of Rhydian Harris for 15, with 3 fours.
With Simmons in fine form at the other end, Chris Morgan scored 17, with 4 fours, before he was dismissed lbw from Arfon Jones, who also then also dismissed Garteth Thomas for 4.
Skipper Greg Fisher was run out for 6 by Rhydian Harris, but top scorer Simmons held his nerve to guide the visitors to victory on 158 for 7, in the 38th over.
He finished on 83 not out, having struck 13 fours and a big six to guide Gorseinon to their winning total.
Paske finished with bowling figures of 2 for 26 off 7 overs, and Arfon Jones had claimed 3 for 31 from 10 overs for the home attack.
This weekend, Llandysul will be hoping to bounce back when they travel to take on mid-table Dafen.
