Pwllheli (205) beat St Asaph (195) by 10 runs
PWLLHELI skipper Morgan Murray-Williams was the spark for an amazing batting collapse as he grabbed six wickets to give his side a thrilling 10 run victory over visitors St Asaph in the North Wales Premier League.
Chasing 206 runs for victory, the visitors looked comfortable on 146 for just one wicket down, before Murray-Williams dismissed steadfast number three bat Nathanial Scott for 47 to an excellent catch by Kartik Bhardwaj.
It started a frantic last hour as the visitors lost their last nine wickets for just 49 runs.
In a dramatic finale home quickie Ioan Roberts trapped last-man Liam Moores lbw to complete an unlikely victory in front of some very tense looking home supporters.
Dangerman opener Duncan Midgley survived two dropped catches on the far-away boundary to hit a fine aggressive 98, which included 5 sixes and 7 fours, before being caught and bowled by spinner Tristan Coetzee.
Coetzee also caught and bowled Daniel Williams for 15 to return figures of 2 for 48 from his 12 overs, but the damage was done by Murray-Williams, who returned 6 wickets for 42 in 12 overs.
Earlier in the day, at a gloriously sunny Parc Bodegroes, South African Coetzee played his best innings of the summer, striking a classy 80 runs, with 11 fours and a six, in conditions finally akin to his home country as Pwllheli totalled 205 in 48.3 overs.
There were contributions from Adam Williams (26), Murray-Williams (20), Kalim Syed (16), Logan Rhys Morgan (15) and Iain Metclafe (14), whilst Jason Foulkes (3 for 46), Danny Ryan (3 for 53) and Duncan Midgley (2 for 38) claimed the wickets.
The team chilled-out in the evening sunshine with a few beers after this exciting win, which keeps them in mid-table in the Premier Division.
On Saturday they welcome local rivals and current champions Menai Bridge to Bodegroes, in what should be a hard-fought encounter.
• Pwllheli Seconds suffered a big loss in their North Wales League division three match away at Abergele, with the hosts posting 201 for 6, thanks to some less than perfect fielding and catching.
