ABERAERON won on the road in the West Wales Conference on Sunday as they registered a six-wicket victory at Tywyn, with all-rounder Steffan Rees scoring a superb 87 not out at Cae Rhianfa.

South African batsman Eric Herbert had posted a hard-hitting 99 for the home side in their total of 156 all out, but Rees, with good support from Dave Floyd, guided Aberaeron to victory in the 38th over.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Tywyn had early success as Strange took a catch to dismiss opener Callum Taylor for nought from the bowling of Steff Rees.

It then became 5 for 2 as Rees bowled Dave Jenkins for 4, but Herbert, who has been making waves in the North Wales League for Dolgellau, took centre stage.

In partnership with Sam Williams, they added 87 for the third wicket, before Hywel Rees bowled Williams for 18, and then proceeded to also remove both Dylan Williams and Richard Rees cheaply.

Herbert, however, continued keep the runs coming as he smashed a total of 4 fours and 9 sixes on his way to scoring 99 runs off 57 balls, before unfortunately being denied his century when he was caught out off the bowling of Louis Fice.

From 133 for 4, the innings collapsed to 156 all out after 36 overs, as no other Tywyn batsman managed double figures.

Steff Rees finished with 4 wickets for 19 from his 9 overs, whilst Hywel Rees claimed 3 for 39 from 9 overs, Louis Fice 2 for 61 from 8, and Strange 1 for 2 from 2.

Father and son Hywel and Steff Rees opened the batting for Aberaeron, and 23 runs were scored before Rees senior was caught behind by wicket-keeper Callum Taylor from the bowling of Sam Williams for 13, having struck two boundaries.

Williams also had John Fice caught for 4 and Jack Mynard then bowled Chris Strange for 0, to limit them to 48 for 3.

Steff Rees, however, kept his focus and 100 runs were added for the fourth wicket in partnership with Dave Floyd to put Aberaeron within sight of their victory.

Floyd was eventually dismissed when caught by Dave Jenkins from the bowling of Williams for 30, including 2 fours.

Rees, however, had smashed 4 fours and 4 big sixes on his way to 87 not out when victory was sealed in the 38th over, with Neil Snowdon finishing 4 not out.

Sam Williams had done well with the ball for Tywyn, returning 3 wickets for 37 runs from his 9 overs, with 2 maidens.

Mynard was the other wicket-taker with 1 for 42 from 9 overs, whilst Eric Herbert bowled an economical 8 overs, 0 for 15.
