Llandysul (114 for 4) beat Aberdare (110) by 6 wkts
LLANDYSUL notched a welcome win in the South Wales Association division one as they chased down Aberdare’s total of 110 for the loss of four wickets.
An unbroken stand between Rhydian Harris (44) and Andrew Edwards (39) guided the Teifisiders to victory in the 37th over, to ease relegation concerns.
Earlier, it was Luke Swift who had taken centre stage as he claimed five wickets in helping to dismiss the visitors for a limited score, after Llandysul had won the toss and elected to field.
Swift accounted for openers Gareth Wesley and Matthew Griffiths cheaply, and it became 26 for 3 when he had Liam Hughes dismissed lbw for nought.
Thomas Rees also went for a duck when he was caught by Rhydian Harris from the bowling of Ieuan Paske to make it 32 for 5.
Number three bat Luke Garthwaite had showed resistance as he stuck three boundaries in his 21 off 27 balls, before he was caught by Rhydian Harris from the bowling of Ieuan Paske.
Swift caught and bowled Michael Weathersby for 6, but Thomas Evans (14) and Gareth Jablonski (20) restored some respectability, before both were caught of the bowling of Arfon Jones.
Geoffrey Derrick (9), Chris Hughes (15 not out) and Nathan Spain (8) added late wickets, but Aberdare were all out for 110 in 35.5 overs.
Swift returned bowling figures of 5 wickets for 33 from his 7.5 overs, Paske took 2 for 29 from 9 and Arfon Jones 2 for 26 from 9.
Rhydian Harris, who held two catches, also bowled economically to return 1 for 16 from 10 overs, which included some six maidens.
The Llandysul reply had an immediate setback as Ieuan Paske was bowled by Chris Hughes off the first ball he faced, and Ben Edkins was caught by Mathew Griffiths, also off Hughes.
It became 17 for 3 as Rhydian Harris was bowled by Nathan Spain for 8, having stuck two boundaries, but opener Gary Williams and skipper Andrew Edwards steadied the innings to move the score on to 54.
Williams was finally caught and bowled by Mattew Griffiths for 19, before Llewelyn Hughes joined Edwards in the middle and together they steered Llandysul to a convincing six wicket win at Tir Dref.
Edwards finished not out on 44, having struck 8 fours, and Hughes scored 6 fours and a six on 39 not out.
With five fixtures remaining the Teifisiders are 19 points above the drop zone, and they will visit lowly Bronwydd this Saturday.
