RACHEL’S Talybont sealed their third consecutive win in the West Wales Conference with a thrilling last-ball one wicket victory over Tywyn at the Geufron.
The winning run was scored off the last ball of the match by Nijo John in a last wicket stand, after Joseff Joshi had made 45 runs and David Barrow 80, to set the scene for a tense and dramatic finish.
Tywyn batted first and they posted 184 for 5, courtesy of a fine unbeaten half-century from Dave Jenkins, with Eddie Iffla also making 41 runs and Richard Rees 38.
On a sunny day at the Geufron, Tywyn had won the toss and they elected to bat first, with the opening pairing of Callum Taylor and Richard Rees scoring 21 for the first wicket, before Taylor was caught by Dave Barrow, from the bowling of Joshi.
James Bradburry-Willis came in and made 9, before being bowled by Barrow.
The third wicket partnership of Rees (38) and Jenkins (66 not out) played watchfully, and they started to get score board ticking over, before Rees was finally clean bowled by Philip Abraham.
This brought in hard hitter Ed Iffla (41), but after drinks two quick wickets fell as second change bowler Sojan Varghese dismissed Iffla, when caught behind.
Varghese (2 for 42) also clean bowled Matthew Muslin next ball, but Tywyn finished with a challenging total of 184 for 5.
In reply, Rachel’s Talybont started slowly and lost three main wickets for 45 runs, with Ben Harper going for 5, Tibby Joseph for 2 and Phil Abraham for 5.
The innings was revived, however, as Dave Barrow (80) and Joshi (45) fought back and brought it to 148 for 3, when Joshi was bowled by Bradbury-Willis.
As wickets were falling, David Barrow batted well at the other end, whilst Sojan Varghese was dismissed lbw for 5, and three quick wickets followed as Graison John was run out for 1, John Glasby clean bowled for 0 and Kevin Jenkins for 6.
Vinod Matthew made 18, but Talybont needed 5 in the last over with two wickets to go. Barrow found a boundary on Bradbury-Willis’ first ball to make the scores level, but he was caught on the third ball, leaving one run to win off three balls.
Nijo John was at the crease on the last ball, and he managed to score the winning run in the most dramatic of finishes.
For Tywyn, Ed Hughes had returned 3 for 24, and Richard Rees took 2 for 33.
