TALYBONT were unable to defend their total of 150 as opener Zaid Khan’s 77 runs put youthful Aberystwyth Seconds on track for their first win of the season in the Girasol Homes West Wales Cricket Club Conference on Sunday.

In a match that was reduced to 39 overs each due to rain, James Breese (40 not out) and Iwan Roberts (19 not out) wrapped up Aber’s winning reply inside 15 overs, after Peter Evans had returned impressive bowling figures of 6 for 23.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Talybont’s openers Vinod Mathew (65) and Ben Harper (40) shared a cracking opening stand of 116, with Mathew striking 10 fours, and Harper 5 fours, before both were trapped lbw by Evans.

Number three batsman Joseph Thomas was then run out by Dylan Jenkins and Graison John became the third lbw victim of Evans, before the Talybont innings collapsed to 150 all out in 33.4 overs, with Craig Errington (10) being the only other batsman to make it to double figures.

Anthony Evans chipped in with 2 or 4 runs, and James Breese also took a wicket, whilst Zaid Khan, although wicketless, had two maidens in his 5 overs.

Youngster Khan then hit out with 10 fours and two sixes to help take the score to 117, before being caught by Phil Abraham from bowler Jospeh Thomas for 77.

Fellow opener James Breese (40 not out, with 6 fours and a six) was joined by Iwan Roberts (19 not out) and they secured a nine-wicket victory on 125 for 1.

• Aberaeron swapped places with Tywyn and District at the top of the Girasol Home West Wales Cricket Club Conference table with a convincing eight wicket win in their opponents’ back yard.

The Aberaeron bowlers were on top throughout, and restricted Tywyn to 123 for 7 off 40 overs. Only four batsmen reached double figures with Dave Jenkins (21) and Niki Williams (28) the not out batsmen at the end of the innings.

Steffan Rees had both opening batsmen caught, to return 2 for 11, Simon Mitchell took 2 for 21 and Paul Hughes 3 for 17.

Aberaeron passed the winning post on 125 for 2 in the 25th over, with runs from Dave Grinszpan (43 not out), Hywel Rees (40) and Chris Strange (25 not out). Dave Jenkins and Ted Hughes were the only Tywyn bowlers to claim a wicket.
