Commoners (125) lost to Tywyn and District (126-9) by 1 wicket
TYWYN’s last wicket pairing of Ed Hughes and Simon Jenkins held their nerve to secure an exciting one wicket victory over Commoners, after the home batsmen had finished on 125 all out on Sunday.
The evergreen Hughes struck a boundary to win the match in a Tywyn reply of 126 for 9 as the visitors scraped home.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Commoners lost the wicket of Rakesh Bhatia, when caught by keeper Dylan Williams from the bowling of Jack Mynard.
David Wilcockson joined opener Bill Somerfield and he added 14 runs, before he too was caught behind by Williams from Mynard (2 for 47 from 9 overs).
Will Copeland made 16, before he was bowled by Callum Taylor, and at the other end Somerfield appeared to be heading for a half century when keeper Williams took another catch to dismiss him for 47, from the bowling of Richard Rees.
Ian Lawton was also bowled by Rees (2 for 35 from 9 overs) for a single run, but Richard Lucas crucially struck 27 runs to ensure a more respectable scoreline, until he was caught by Ed Hughes from Taylor, who returned 2 for 24 from 7 overs.
Morgan York and Marcus Cheyne also took wickets to ensure that Commoners were all out for 125 in the 32nd over, and the game looked winnable for Tywyn.
Callum Taylor and Tom Kistruck set about the chase positively, as both opening batsmen struck 4 boundaries, before the Commoners’ attack enjoyed success.
Ian Lawton (2 for 31 from 9 overs) had Taylor caught by keeper Rakesh Bhatia for 22 and then dismissed Richard Rees lbw for nought, whist Kistruck was also caught behind off Bill Somerfield for 29.
Dave Jenkins hit 3 fours in his 19 runs, and No 8 Ted Hughes added 14 to take Tywyn closer - but wickets fell to Somerfield (3 for 33 from 9 overs) and Dave Wilcokson (3 for 37 from 8.4 overs) - before the final pair of Hughes (7 not out) and Jenkins (5 not out) hit the winning runs.
