RAIN ultimately brought proceedings to a halt, with Dolgellau on 69 for 2 from 10 overs in reply to visiting Pontblyddyn’s total of 240 for 7 from their 50 overs.

The match was at an interesting stage, with both teams being in the hunt for victory, but the premature end denied the players from each side the chance to achieve their winning ambitions.

Persistent rain forced the players to leave the field of play and they did not return, with the match being abandoned.

The visitors decided to bat first, with Ben Mason and Richard Davies putting on 33 before they were separated, Davies going for 20, bowled by Mark Edmondson.

Mason also departed just 4 runs later, adjudged lbw to Sam Williams for 12.

At 75 in the 20th over, Pontblyddyn lost their 3rd wicket when Jamie Chambers was caught for 19, by Edmondson at short mid-wicket, Phil Leeds the bowler.

Visiting captain Alistair Roberts was lbw to Eric Herbert for 23 and Gethin Thomas run out by Herbert to make it 88 for 5 in the 25th over. However, Dolgellau could not get another breakthrough for 15 overs as James Hughes and Sion Thomas had a partnership of 77 for the 6th wicket.

Thomas was eventually caught behind by Rob Humphreys off the returning Edmondson, after hitting 6 fours in his 41.

Hughes continued until 10 runs later when he was dismissed for his side’s top score of 44, also striking 6 boundaries, before becoming Edmondson’s third wicket.

The hosts’ bowlers could not find a way to take any more wickets as Pontblyddyn went from 177 for 7 to 240 for 7 at the close of their innings, with James Birch and Tom Dawson having an unbroken alliance of 63 runs in the last 9 overs.

Birch hit 3 fours and a six in his 37 not out and Dawson’s 21 not out contained 3 fours. Edmondson had finished with 3 wickets for 53 from his 12 overs, the other wicket takers being Sam Williams 1 for 18 from 7 overs, skipper Phil Leeds 1 for 40 from 10 and Herbert 1 for 50 from 12.

Dolgellau, in response, got off to a good start as Gareth Lanagan and Sion Francis put on 46 in 6 overs, before Lanagan was caught by the keeper Jamie Chambers off the bowling of Birch for 22 with 4 fours.

A second wicket went down with the total on 52, with Smithies also caught by Chambers, this time off James Hughes.

In the remaining play of just 3 overs, Francis reached an unbeaten 40 off 28 balls with 8 fours, with Herbert 5 not out.

At the end of the 10th over play was halted as the rain became heavier, and that was that, with no more play being possible due to the rain and the fading light.

Dolgellau were 69 for 2 when the match abandoned. Birch, with 1 for 32 and Hughes 1 for 37 were the wicket takers, as both sides took 3 points. The Match Balls were sponsored by Nicolas Lanagan, Gwenda Lanagan and Rhian James Lanagan.Gwersyllt Park (75 all out) all out lost to Pwllheli (76 for 0) by 10 wickets

PWLLHELI maintained pole position in the North Wales League division one as they breezed to a comprehensive 10-wicket win over Gwersyllt Park on Saturday.

The home side, after winning the toss and electing to bat, had little success against a Pwllheli bowling attack that had them all out for just 75 in the 30th over.

Opener Kallutharage Wijesekara made 10, before being dismissed lbw by Murray-Williams, but number four bat Scott Watkins was the only other batsman to make double figures with a top score of 35, before he was stumped by Guto Roberts from the bowling of Martin Jones.

Pwllheli’s openers Craig Edwards and Jason Underwood had no problems in carrying their bats to the victory as the hosts used five bowlers without success.

Edwards was 23 not out and Underwood was 48 not out when the winning total was reached at 76 for 0 in 8.5 overs.

• Pwllheli Seconds were beaten by eight wickets in their Seconds Division West match against St Asaph Seconds at Bodegroes, after scoring 120 for 5 in 28 overs.

In reply, St Asaph’s opening batsman Mark Dine was caught for 12 by Butterworth from the bowling of Osian Williams (1 for 37 from 9 overs, with 2 maidens).
