Aberystwyth Town’s Director of Football Neville Powell says he was delighted to see his side make a welcome return to winning ways in the JD Welsh Premier at Llanelli last Friday evening.

Two goals from the Seasiders revived their hopes of making the play-offs for Europe with their first league win since November.

Aber remain two points adrift of Cardiff Met at the top of the Play-Off Conference, as they prepare to face 10th-placed Cefn Druids at the Rock on Friday night.

After ending their frustrating seven-match losing run against Llandudno the previous weekend, the Seasiders are now looking to build momentum again.

“The lads were superb, they also did well against Llandudno, as in this league, if you get on a losing run it’s difficult end it,” said Powell. “Having got a point, we knew we had to come down here and put in a performance against Llanelli, who are fighting for their lives.

“We were outstanding all night, we adapted well to the difficult conditions, played some good stuff, and we got the goals at the right time.

“The lads have put in a right shift, and it is a massive three points for the club.”

Having moved 15 points clear of second-from-bottom Llanelli, the Seasiders can now turn their attention to securing a top seven place in their remaining eight games.

Three second half goals earned Cardiff Met a 3-0 win against Cefn Druids at Cyncoed Campus on Sunday, to move back into seventh spot, but the Druids will take heart from having beat Aber twice already this season.

“We’ll take every game as it comes, one game at a time as the old cliche goes, and we know it will be tough against Cefn Druids,” said Powell.

“There is a bit of a spring back in the dressing room, it was an entertaining game and we got the result, which we’ll be looking to build on.”

A positive result would put Aber in good heart for their home showdown against Cardiff Met on 23 February.
