ABERYSTWYTH Town manager Neville Powell is looking for his side to carry their away form back to Park Avenue, after second half goals from John Owen and Declan Walker clinched a 2-1 win at Prestatyn Town.

The Seasiders have lost just once in five league matches - against league leaders TNS - and will look to maintain form against fourth-placed Cefn Druids at home on Friday evening (ko 8pm).

Points remain the priority as they look to move out of relegation danger, but Powell says that things are starting to come together after a slow start to their Welsh Premier League campaign.

“We played well in difficult conditions, and both sides deserved a lot of credit,” said Powell after the Prestatyn match.

“We had the wind in the first half and we could have got a couple of goals, but we went in 1-0 down.

“I always knew that we had that quality to create chances against the wind in the second half. The lads got the ball down and played some good stuff, and over 90 minutes I thought that we probably deserved to win.”

Two wins in three matches, both away from home, have lifted the Seasiders five points clear of Carmarthen, and level on points with Newtown.

Aber, however, will be eager to register their first league win of the season in front of their home supporters.

“From the start of the season the boys have worked hard,” said Powell. “We haven’t had the best of luck, but over the season it works itself out.

“We are getting the right type of players into the team, and we’re playing the type of football we want. We are starting to get the ball up to the big players, to take it down and play.

“It’s all coming together, but we’ve still got a lot of hard work to do. It’s only our second win, so we are not getting carried away with the result.

“It will be another big game for us against Cefn Druids on Friday night.”

Huw Griffiths’ side will be confident after beating Bangor last weekend, to leapfrog above them into fourth place.

Aberystwyth were beaten 2-0 at the Rock back in August, but Powell believes that they have turned a corner.

“We’ve still got a lot of work to do, and it’s a small squad,” said Powell. “The spirit inside the dressing room goes a long way, and in the last four or five games we’ve turned a corner.

“The boys are playing with a lot more freedom, and enjoying their football, and it is paying dividends.

“On Friday, we’ve got to perform like we did in the last home game against TNS. We did not get the result, but if we can perform like that, we wont be far off the three points.

“We will work on a few things in the week, and we’ll look forward to it.

“It’s a massive game, and we’ll go into it with the same attitude and prepare right, like we did for Prestatyn.”

With the squad close to full strength skipper Jonny Spittle returns to availabilty after his one match suspension.

Joe Culshaw, however, has left the club to join Cymru Alliance outfit Denbigh, after losing his place in the side to local youngster Mathew Jones.

The 24-year-old, a former youth player at Wrexham, started just one league match for Aber after joining in August, but was sent off after just six minutes against Cardiff Met - which resulted in a three match suspension.

• Aberystwyth’s Under 19s Development squad continued winning ways with a 5-1 win at Cardiff Met Academy in the Welsh Youth Cup.

Jack Rimmer led the way with four goals for Bari Morgan’s men, with Liam Doherty also finding the net.

On Sunday, the young Seasiders will host Penybont in the Welsh Premier Development League (2pm).
