ABERYSTWYTH Town’s interim manager Wyn Thomas is looking to his side to push on for a place in the play-offs for Europe in their remaining three matches.

Having had no action last weekend due to the Welsh Cup semi-final ties taking place, Aberystwyth entertain bottom club Haverfordwest County on Friday evening - and Thomas is looking his side can build on their 3-1 win over Rhyl a fortnight ago.

Bangor City’s 5-2 win over Haverfordwest last weekend lifted them three points clear of Aber, as did Carmarthen’s 1-0 win over the Pembrokeshire Bluebirds in midweek.

The Seasiders must still play both Carmarthen and Bangor before the end of the season, and realistically they need to win their remaining three league games to reach the end of season play-offs.

TNS and Airbus UK Broughton reaching the Welsh Cup Final last weekend, however, means that if the Wingmakers were to win the Cup, eighth place would be enough to qualify for the play-offs.

“Points are the important thing now, and we got the three points against Rhyl, but we need to defend better,” said Thomas after their home success last time out.

“We’ve got players who can win matches, like Rhys Griffiths, who played exceptionally well against Rhyl, and players like Chris Venables and Craig Williams.”

Haverfordwest’s defeat on Saturday finally relegated the Bluebirds, but Thomas will be taking nothing for granted against a side that beat them 2-1 at Park Avenue on New Year’s Day.

The Seasiders, however, have won four and drawn two of their matches since the league split, including a 3-1 win away to Haverfordwest in February.

Chris Venables has also rediscovered his scoring boots, standing a single goal shy of the Welsh Premier League’s leading scorer, and with Rhys Griffiths and Craig Williams in imperious form last time out, goals are likely.

Meanwhile Jonathan Evans, having lost his starting place against Rhyl, has rejoined Penrhyncoch, and was sent off in their 2-0 defeat against Llandrindod Wells in midweek.

Admission for Friday night’s match against Haverfordwest will cost £6 for adults, £4 concessions and £1 for children. The match will be preceded by a club photo at 6pm, with all affiliated teams invited to attend.
